"In ieder huisje woont een kruisje" dacht ik bij Schuld en Boete. Mozes met zijn stenen tafelen. Raskolnikov en zijn misantropie. Hieruit ontstond een loodzware doch blijmoedige tracklist die, printer en brander dienende, volgende week wordt verzonden.

18 and Life - 'bout life behind bars

Achttien nummers over de gevangenis, want dat leek me toch het meest passend bij het thema, en over wat daarna komt (meestal niks goeds). Ik heb geprobeerd om af te wisselen in stijlen en genres, maar je komt met dit onderwerp toch al snel bij de kuntrie en de bloes. Mij hoort u daarover niet klagen overigens. Verhalende nummers, hoe dan ook. Eerlijk gezegd heb ik wat gegoogeld ter inspiratie, anders was ik nooit op Up North Trip (een verwijzing naar de keiharde gevangenissen in upstate New York) van Mobb Deep gekomen, het verongelijkte Rotting on Remand van singer-songwriter Billy Bragg of de Ierse ballade Fields of Athenry (nu door Dropkick Murphys, maar al vele tientallen jaren oud). De titel is gestolen van haarzwaaiband Skid Row, hier in een bijzonder coverversie.
